Derek Kilmer Kicks Off Campaign

Kilmer Focuses On Bringing Jobs To Pierce And Kitsap Counties

GIG HARBOR - Community leader and businessman Derek Kilmer will launch his campaign on Wednesday, June 16 from 6 – 8PM at Anthony’s Homeport Restaurant in Gig Harbor located at 8827 Harborview Drive North. Bremerton Mayor Cary Bozeman, Kitsap Prosecutor Russ Hauge, Key Peninsula leader Hugh McMillan, small business owner Julie Tappero, former Gig Harbor Mayor Jack Bujacich, Port Orchard City Council Member Carolyn Powers along wit h friends and supporters will host the event that is open to the public. All are welcome to attend.

“It’s time for our state representatives to make bringing jobs to our area their top priority,” Kilmer announced. “I spend every day of my professional life helping create and retain small business jobs. We need more help from Olympia. It’s time we have a leader representing us who we trust to set the right priorities.”

Kilmer’s community roots run deep. He was born and raised on the Olympic Peninsula and currently serves as Business Retention Manager for the Economic Development Board for Tacoma-Pierce County, where he has worked with hundreds of local employers, focused on growing and keeping good, high wage jobs in our community. Serving on the board of the Gig Harbor-Peninsula Area Chamber of Commerce, Kilmer helped develop the organization’s business and economic development strategy, playing an active role in efforts to recruit and retain local jobs. Kilmer is a trustee of Tacoma Community College and is the Vice Chair of Communities in Schools of Peninsula. He is also a member of the Bremerton Chamber of Commerce and the Key Peninsula Business Association. Kilmer is active in the Gig Harbor United Methodist Church and as a member of Rotary.

“As someone who was born and raised on the Olympic Peninsula, I look forward to representing our entire community proudly in Olympia. My top priorities will be job creation, quality education and transportation solutions that are fair to our region,” Kilmer explained.

Derek and his wife Jennifer live in Gig Harbor. Jennifer is the executive director of the Gig Harbor Historical Society.
