Congressman Norm Dicks and Senator Maria Cantwell Voice Strong Support for Derek Kilmer
Focusing on the real priorities of the people of Washington

GIG HARBOR - Senator Maria Cantwell and Congressman Norm Dicks announced on Monday their strong, public support of Derek Kilmer, candidate for the State House of Representatives in the 26th Legislative District, Position 2 representing Gig Harbor, the Key Peninsula, South Kitsap and downtown Bremerton.

“In his work for the Economic Development Board, Derek Kilmer has worked with hundreds of employers to help them grow and succeed here in our region. Leadership like that will be an invaluable asset in Olympia,” said Congressman Dicks. “I look forward to working with him from the other Washington to bring more jobs to the Puget Sound.”

“Derek Kilmer has been a real champion for creating jobs and keeping jobs in our region,” said Senator Maria Cantwell. “Kitsap and Pierce Counties will benefit from having a leader like Derek Kilmer who will focus on getting our economy moving again, tackling our healthcare affordability crisis and focusing on quality schools, both K-12 and our colleges and universities. I give Derek my full endorsement.”

After their announcement, Derek Kilmer said, “I am honored to have the support of members of our Congressional delegation like Congressman Norm Dicks and Senator Maria Cantwell and local leaders like Kitsap Prosecutor Russ Hauge, Pierce County Executive John Ladenburg, and Bremerton Mayor Cary Bozeman. I look forward to working with all of these national and local leaders to tackle the tough issues we face here on the Peninsula like bringing more jobs to our area, investing in our education system and improving healthcare access and affordability. It’s time we focused on these real priorities and not get sidetracked on issues that are not important to the people of South Kitsap, Gig Harbor, and Bremerton.”

Kilmer’s community roots run deep. He was born and raised on the Olympic Peninsula and currently serves as Business Retention Manager for the Economic Development Board for Tacoma-Pierce County, where he has worked with hundreds of local employers, focused on growing and keeping good, high wage jobs in our community. Serving on the board of the Gig Harbor-Peninsula Area Chamber of Commerce, Kilmer helped develop the organization’s business and economic development strategy, playing an active role in efforts to recruit and retain local jobs. Kilmer is a trustee of Tacoma Community College and is the Vice Chair of Communities in Schools of Peninsula. Kilmer is active in the Gig Harbor United Methodist Church and as a member of Rotary.

Derek and his wife Jennifer live in Gig Harbor. Jennifer is the executive director of the Gig Harbor Historical Society.
